The only full-service yarn shop in the Interior

Welcome to Inua Wool Shoppe, Interior Alaska’s oldest and most complete knitting shop. We specialize in natural and exotic fiber yarns and roving, including Qiviut! Qiviut is one of the softest, warmest fibers in the world, and is native to Alaska. We also carry knitting needles, crochet hooks, a huge variety of patterns, books and other supplies. You’ll love our selection of natural fiber yarns: silk, angora, alpaca, mohair, wool, cashmere, linen, cotton and (our favorite) Qiviut. We even carry hand-knit Qiviut garments!

A Specialty Store for Knitting, Crochet & Fiber Arts

Kids Knit Day: Saturday, April 4th — all day
Do your kids love to watch you knit? Have you always wanted to teach them how, but couldn’t find the time? Come down to Inua on April 4th, and we’ll help your children learn to knit. Imagine how proud they’ll be when they wear the first scarf they made themselves!

Also, great news for our lace knitters: We finally got our lace blocking kits in stock! These kits take almost all the hassle out of blocking lace shawls and scarves. Each kit contains a dozen 36 inch rigid wires, a pair of 24 inch flexible wires, 20 steel T pins, wire blocking instructions, and a yardstick, all in a nice white storage tube. We also have kits with extra T pins, for those really elaborate projects.

Do you have outdoorsy friends whose favorite hobbies are more than the average hand-knit scarf can handle? Try our new PolarKnit fleece yarn from Polartec! It knits up into fantastic dense, soft, washable garments, and comes in a bunch of fun, bright colors.

Also on their way are these new yarns:

  • NEW Debblie Bliss Cotton
  • New spring and summer colors of Cashmerino
  • Two new Marisol Collection lines
  • New colors of Marisol’s cotton Sampa
  • ALL the new colors of Ella Rae Classic wool & Amity

We’ve expanded our Dream in Color selection with the addition of Groovy! This yarn has the same beautiful handpainted colors you expect from Dream in Color, in a gorgeous superwash bulky merino. We’ve also added many new colors of their popular Smooshy sock yarn!

We also brought in some new yarns from Briggs and Little: Softspun, a super-soft light worsted weight wool (soft enough to wear against the skin for most folks!), and Tuffy, a 80/20 wool nylon aran-weight blend that works just beautifully for sweaters, socks and more. Both come in a selection of subtle, soft colors.

Local Alaskan Yarns: Alpaca from the Imagine Ranch in North Pole, natural colored worsted wool from Talkeetna, and Nancy Sopp’s beautifully dyed sock yarn in fingering and worsted. Don’t forget the suri alpaca, cashmere, and qiviut from Windy Valley!

Tibetan Yak Yarn: Big 100 g balls of handspun yak from Tibet.  A new cottage industry based on the traditional lifestyle which produces gorgeous, heavy worsted/bulky weight, soft, dark brown yarn. $32 for 164 yards.

Plymouth Eco Yarns: By popular demand, we have a gorgeous stock of Plymouth Eco cashmere and silk yarns! And don’t forget to check out their new camel blend yarn — great for men’s wear — heavy, structured and warm in a natural color.

Dream in Color’s Smooshy sock-weight and Classy worsted yarns were so popular, we’re expanding our selection! Not only are we carrying lots of Smooshy and Classy, we’ve also got Dream in Color laceweight, and semi-solid colors in Classy. Still not enough? Soon we’ll also have Starry (worsted weight with a little sparkle) and Dream in Color Bulky!

And those aren’t all our recent arrivals! Come down to the store and see:

  • Beautiful Shibui yarns: The colors are amazing, and just wait until you feel it! We like it so much we ordered more!
  • Marisol’s Sulka: A lovely heavy wool/alpaca/silk blend, just perfect for making fast and fabulous hats and mittens. We ordered ALL the colors they offer!
  • Dale of Norway: We’ve got even more Helio and Baby Ull in stock, in beautiful new colors, for all you Dale of Norway fans.
  • And last but definitely not least: Casbah by Handmaiden and the Blue Ridge line of yarns: thick and thin worsted wool, pima cotton, thick and thin cotton, and beautiful handpainted linen for starting your summer projects.

If you haven’t been in to the shop lately, now is a perfect time to come see our new stock, and pick something up for a new project!
