Inua Wool Shoppe — Upcoming Classes

Inua Wool Shoppe hosts regular classes in knitting, crochet, and other fiber arts. If you’ve always wanted to learn to knit or crochet, or if you’re already experienced, but would like to learn a new technique, or just work on a new project with a group of people, sign up for one of our classes — All classes have a 6 person maximum, and you must register and pre-pay in person at the shop. Saturday, 6 Dec. — 3pm–6pm — $25 + materials

Have you been wanting to learn lace knitting, but don’t know where to start? This class will teach intermediate knitters how to knit a lace pattern scarf using dk weight yarn. Give the finished scarf as a beautiful holiday gift for someone special, or keep it for yourself!

Pattern is included in the class fee. Materials need to be bought at Inua.


Tues., 25 Nov., 16 Dec.. — 6pm&ndash9pm — $35+materials

So you’ve knit socks from the cuff down, and you’re looking for a change of pace? Come learn to knit socks from the toe up! No more worries about grafting your toe seam, and you can try the socks on as you go, so you’ll know they’re a perfect fit.

Materials need to be purchased at Inua, so pick out your yarn when you sign up for the class, or spend some time browsing the store before the first lesson.


Sat. 22 & 29 November — 3pm&ndash6pm — $35+materials

‘Tis the season to keep your hands warm, and what better way than with hand-knit mittens? If you already know how to knit and purl, you can learn to make cozy mittens for winter! Students will learn to use double pointed needles, increase for thumb, and decrease for top of mitten using a heavy worsted weight yarn.

Materials need to be purchased at Inua before class. Buy your yarn when you come in to sign up, or come in early before class and spend some time browsing for the perfect color combination.


Tuesdays, 2 & 9 Dec. — 6pm&ndash9pm — $40 + materials

Learn double-knitting (great for mittens and -30ºF hats!) by making a headband in this class. The class will learn the magic cast on, the fundamentals of double knitting and following a chart for double knitting, casting off using the Kitchener stitch. Class will be expected to complete assigned work between classes in order to facilitate the completion of the project.


Saturdays, 6, 13, and 20, Dec. — call for times — $40/all or $15/session +materials

This is a beginning sock class and will cover making the cuff, heel flap, turning of the heel, gusset, instep and toes. We will cover some pattern reading. Students will need to do some knitting after class. If time permits in the last class we will demonstrate the technique of knitting on circulars and/or on magic loop. Socks are a great way to learn many techniques used in most other patterns!


Saturdays, 15, 22 & 29 Nov. — call for times — $40/all or $15/each class + materials

This series of classes is for beginning knitters (or knitters who’ve gotten out of practice!), and will include casting on, knit & purl stitches, cables, binding off, and pattern reading. Knitting is a perfect hobby to pick up to keep your hands busy (and warm!) during the long Fairbanks winters … if you’ve always wanted to learn to knit, here is a perfect opportunity!
